The Moonlight Colourthon and Twilight Colourthon will take place at Chalkwell Park, Southend-on-Sea SSO 8NB.
This is our main event. It is, in a nutshell, a half marathon walk set against the backdrop of Southend by night. Walkers will leave Chalkwell Park at 6pm wearing an array of bright and colourful clothing, and will walk a 13+ mile course around the Southend, Westcliff, Leigh and Chalkwell areas. Due to health and safety issues, this event is restricted to Walkers aged 13 and over (please see our Terms and Conditions for full information).
This event was launched in 2012 for those who feel the Moonlight half marathon is just a step too far. It’s a 10k walk (6.1 miles) which starts at exactly the same time as the Moonlight walk leaving Chalkwell Park at 6pm with much of the walk following the same route around Southend, Westcliff and Chalkwell. Due to health and safety issues, this event is restricted to Walkers aged 13 and over (please see our Terms and Conditions for full information).
Our safety record is second to none, although, in the unlikely event that something does happen, Southend Round Table nationally holds a public liability insurance policy, full details of which together with our Event Management Plan and Risk Assessments have been approved and lodged with the Local Authority Special Events Committee.
For these events, as we do for all our other events, we will continue to work closely with the Local Authority, Police, the SSAG Committee and other relevant bodies to ensure that we are as safe as we can be. We are also working closely with organisations such as Tangent, Ladies Circle, Agora Club and 41 Club to secure their assistance with the stewarding of the events. As you will appreciate, 13 miles is a large area to cover!
Registration for all events is online via our Colourthon Website Registration page.
Yes, to do this simply follow the normal registration process and register as a Member then add all the walkers you want to the group, it’s a simple as that! (Please note: The walkers Welcome Packs will be posted individually to each walker within the group).
The entry fee to each event is £25.00 (Reduced ‘Early Bird’ offer £20.00). This is to cover the costs associated with setting up the event infrastructure, including the provision of official merchandise (e.g. wrist band, medal, etc.) for each walker. Each year we work tirelessly to attract corporate sponsorship and sell additional merchandise to also offset some of these costs enabling us to keep the entry fee as low as possible.
The Moonlight Colourthon Charitable Trust organise the infrastructure only and as such will only collect event entry fees to meet the event costs. The collection of all sponsorship money generated by each walker is the responsibility of the charity to collect from the walker and bank themselves. As mentioned above, following the event each charity will be issued with a list of the entrants that have walked on their behalf together with their contact details and the amount pledged. We also provide comprehensive information and resources for charities, please contact us for more details – steve@colourthon.org.
No they are NOT profit making organisations. The event is wholly organised by the ‘Moonlight Colourthon Charitable Trust’ on behalf of the ‘Southend Round Table’ on a totally voluntary basis. So, as previously stated, any surplus funds from the entrance fees will be distributed by ‘Southend Round Table’ to many varied charitable beneficiaries. In the event that the total entrance fees do not cover our costs, Southend Round Table will cover the loss by way of a donation to the event on the basis that it will enable other charities to raise funds.
On completion of your registration you will be emailed all your event information, official Sponsorship Form (n.b. this form and any subsequent forms must be brought to the Check-in Desk on the day of the event) and Fitness Advice from ‘David Lloyd Leisure’. Your Walkers Number will ready for you to collect when you check-in on the day of the event.
If no charity has been nominated you will be entered as walking for ‘Southend Round Table’ for their beneficiaries.
As organisers we understand that it would be impossible to totally protect ourselves from the risk of any fraudulent activity being committed by a body or group using our event as part of their deception. It would be unrealistic for us to vet each and every beneficiary so by permitting registered charities only we hope that the accreditation of being registered and monitored by the UK Charities Commission will reduce any such risk and ensure your sponsorship is being used exactly as you would wish by a legitimate organisation.
Additional media is available on request; this includes electronic versions of our logo etc. If you can supply us with your electronic logo we will endeavour to include it within our website with a direct link to your charity website, if applicable. Artwork should be e-mailed to, Steve (steve@colourthon.org) together with your charity’s details and the full address of your website link.
As at the time of writing, we have received sponsorship and support from many key individuals and companies. Our members are in the process of speaking to businesses of all sizes to try and secure further sponsorship.
